History of the Department

The Department of Allergology was organized in 1992 at the joint department of Allergology, Immunology, Microbiology, Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology under direction of the ASMI Rector, Professor Belozerov S.E.
For the first time in 1994 under the guidance of Professor Ispayeva Zh.B. a course of pediatric allergology was created, which subsequently was repeatedly transformed at first as an allergology course (2008) and then as an allergology module (2011), an allergology and clinical immunology module (2014), and an independent department of allergology and clinical immunology (2018).
All these years Head of the Department Allergology and Clinical Immunology is MD, PhD, Professor Ispayeva Zhanat Bakhytovna. She has extensive professional training in allergology, defended her doctoral dissertation in 1987, continued her doctoral studies at the head center of allergology in Moscow (1989-1992), where she defended her doctoral dissertation.
Ispayeva Zh.B. for many years (since 2000) and to the present time is the Chief Children’s Allergologist of the Health Ministry of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Almaty city. She was one of the first chief editors of newspaper ASMI “Shipager” (1994 – 1997).
Currently prof. Ispayeva Zh.B. Head and the Chairman of the Senate of KazNMU named by S.D. Asfendiyarov (since 2017), Chairman of the Board of the Republican public association “Association of Allergists and Clinical Immunologists” (since 2013), Member of the European Academy of Allergists and Clinical Immunologists (EAACI) from 1999 to the present.
Ispayeva Zh.B. is a coordinator of the Republic of Kazakhstan of scientific society ARIA (Allergic Rhinitis and its impact on Asthma), the International Network of Universities of Molecular Allergology and Immunology (INUNIMAI). She is a leader and coordinator of national programs on bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis in the Republic of Kazakhstan (1998, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2011).
Ispayeva Zh.B. is organizer of the annual National International Congresses “Asthma and Allergy” (19) with the participation of leading world-famous allergists, presidents of the European Academy of Allergists and Clinical Immunologists, specialists in the field of allergology and clinical immunology from near and far abroad, the 1st and 2nd Congress of Allergists and clinical immunologists of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Under the guidance of Professor Ispayeva Zh.B. in 2013 the Republican Public Association “Association of Allergists and Clinical Immunologists” was created and registered by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan with 9 branches in the cities: Nur-Sultan (Astana), Kostanay, Shymkent, Aktobe, Atyrau, Kokshetau, Uralsk, Karaganda, Ust-Kamenogorsk.
For the first time in history of the Kazakhstan Republic in 2013, the Republican Public Association “Association of Allergologists and Clinical Immunologists” became a full member of the European Academy of Allergists and Clinical Immunologists (EAACI), which includes 52 countries, including the Republic of Kazakhstan, and in 2018 the Kazakhstan Association changed position in EAACI transferred to the rank of National Societies of European countries (EAACI website).
In addition, in 2018 the Kazakhstan Association of Allergologists and Clinical Immunologists under the leadership of Professor Ispayeva Zh.B. became a member of the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS), a member of the World Allergy Society (WAO).
Also, Kazakhstan represented by Professor Ispayeva Zh.B. included in the international project MACVIA-ARIA of the European Health Commission.
She was awarded with the signs “Excellence in Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, “For the contribution to the health of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, has an honorary diploma of the Ministry of Health, silver medal KazNMU named by S.D. Asfendiyarov, a letter of appreciation from the East Kazakhstan regional health department.
Under the guidance of Professor Ispayeva Zh.B. 2 candidate dissertations were defended, more than 200 scientific articles and abstracts were published, three of them in journals with an impact factor of 5-7, 10 methodological recommendations on the main issues of allergology, a textbook on children’s allergology in the state language “Allergic diseases in children” and more than 130 doctors of allergologists–immunologists of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Staff of the department published more than 70 scientific articles and abstracts in journals recommended by the Committee for Control in Field of Education and Science of the Education Ministry and Science of the Kazakhstan Republic (Vestnik KazNMU, Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery of Kazakhstan), collection of abstracts.
For the first time in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Department has introduced modern methods of molecular allergic diagnostics, included in the educational program for residency.
In 2016, the department carried out an intra-university research project on the topic: “Metabolic changes in food allergies” as part of an intra-university grant, during which the metabolic profile of patients with food allergies was determined.
Currently, the department is included in the scientific project of the PCF KazNMU named by S.D. Asfendiyarov on the topic: National Program for the Introduction of Personalized and Preventive Medicine in the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2020-2022.
Departmental staff perform a significant clinical burden at clinical sites. Implemented acts of completed work on new methods of allergy diagnosis. They are engaged in scientific work, introducing new methods in allergology and immunology into practical health care. Scientific articles are published together with doctors at clinical sites.

The clinical bases of the department are:

⦁ Large multidisciplinary University clinic “Aksay” №1, allergology department.
⦁ A large city multidisciplinary hospital with 450 beds – State Municipal Enterprise On The Basis Of Economic Management “City Clinical Hospital” №1, Allergology Department, 45 beds.
⦁ A large diagnostic center in Almaty, which serves more than 5000 people a year, equipped with an immunological laboratory and all the necessary equipment for a full examination of patients – State Municipal Enterprise On The Basis Of Economic Management “City Clinical Hospital” №1 ”Republican Diagnostic Center” allergocenter.
