Scientific work

The main direction of the department’s scientific activity is a comprehensive study of the theoretical and applied aspects of the etiology, treatment of patients and the prevention of colorectal cancer and breast cancer in various categories of patients, taking into account the age aspect and clinical and genotypic variants of the disease.
Since 2012, the department has been participating in scientific and technical programs carried out within the framework of grant and program-targeted funding by the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Research in which the staff of the department took part:
1. “Molecular genetic principles of diagnosis and screening of familial and sporadic colorectal cancer” (2012-2014). Joint scientific and technical program of the Department of Oncology of KazNMU, Institute of General Genetics and Cytology of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Almaty Oncological Center. Grant financing of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
2. “Study of clinical and genotypic variants of hereditary and sporadic colorectal cancer in young people and patients with a genetically burdened anamnesis” (2012-2017). Joint scientific and technical program of KazNMU, Institute of General Genetics and Cytology of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Almaty Oncological Center.
3. “Development of an epigenetic test system for the diagnosis of colorectal cancer in Kazakhstan” (2015-2017). Joint scientific and technical program of the Department of Oncology of KazNMU, Institute of General Genetics and Cytology of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Almaty Oncological Center. Grant financing of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
4. BO25114: “A Phase III, randomized, multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled study investigating the efficacy and safety of pertuzumab in combination with trastuzumab and chemotherapy in patients with HER2-positive advanced gastroesophageal junction cancer” (2014). The initiator and sponsor of the study is F. Hoffmann-La Roche.
5. New molecular genetic methods of pre-symptomatic diagnosis and treatment of a number of significant diseases (Molecular genetic analysis of colorectal and breast cancer based on next generation sequencing. Program-targeted funding of scientific research of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Currently, the staff of the department are involved in the following scientific and technical programs and projects implemented within the framework of grant funding of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan:
1. The predictive value of the clinical-genetic and immunohistochemical characteristics of colorectal cancer.
2. Possibilities of determining markers of T-lymphocytes in early diagnosis and prognosis of lung and breast cancer.
3. Study of the gene expression profile for identification of molecular subgroups of non-Hodgkin B-cell lymphomas in Kazakhstan.
For the period 2016-2021 the staff of the department published 2 textbooks, 1 monograph, 1 manual, 1 study guide, 6 guidelines. 16 articles were published in foreign high-ranking journals with a high impact factor, included in the Scopus and Web of Science databases. In the journals included in the list of Committee for Control in the Sphere of Education and Science of the Ministry of Education and Science 59 articles were published, in Kazakhstani and international journals 47 articles were published.
The staff of the department took part in 10 international master classes, 19 international conferences, 5 international seminars, 9 congresses of oncologists from the CIS and Republic of Kazakhstan and congresses of international oncological organizations (ASCO, ESMO, UICC, WHO / EURO-IARC).
The staff of the department organized 1 international conference, received 7 acts of implementation of scientific developments in practical health care and 2 patents for inventions.
Currently, the staff of the department is taking part in the development of a specialized scientific direction Technologies for the prevention of premature death and disability from injuries, socially significant diseases and disorders (Development of innovative technologies for early diagnosis and treatment of malignant diseases, taking into account modern approaches of genomics and proteomics in lung cancer, stomach cancer, ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, colorectal cancer) within the framework of targeted funding by the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Residents and doctoral students take an active part in the scientific work of the department.
